Product Vision to the Fore: Jannik on His Role in Product Management
Jannik tells us in an interview what motivates and drives him about his job in Product Management – and how it was only by chance that he ended up at Vector.
What is your job?
I’m Senior Manager for Connected Services Product Management in the Embedded Software & Systems division.
What do you enjoy most about it?
While simultaneously one of the biggest challenges, I appreciate the breadth and depth of both technical and non-technical discussions in product management. Topics such as modern research in distributed communication for embedded systems or cloud service infrastructures are just as much a part of everyday life as the exchange with our customers or compliance with current cybersecurity and data protection requirements.
What makes working at Vector so special?
No matter which product line, department or team I have looked at so far – there’s an impressive level of expertise on display everywhere. There are experts for almost every topic who can discuss or convey content at the highest level. That’s really impressive.
What is your take on team spirit at Vector?
Good teamwork and unconditional helpfulness are key components of the Vector spirit. If you have a question or concern, all colleagues are there to help with enormous enthusiasm, patience and expertise.
What does the phrase “software-defined vehicles (SDVs)” mean to you?
“Empowering tomorrow’s technology, today” – if a little overused these days – this expression sums up the essence of SDV well. Remaining ecologically and economically sustainable, software-driven requires flexible architectures and an SDV mindset geared towards longevity as well as fast iteration cycles.
What challenges you most in your job?
One of the biggest challenges is to quickly dive into very different topics without losing sight of the overarching product vision – all the while managing organizational aspects. Grasping the context necessary for valid decisions can be challenging. That said, working together as a team and using different perspectives as well as individual strengths allows for rapid iterations and well-thought-out products.
How long will SDVs continue to be relevant to us? And why?
SDV are definitely here to stay – and go far beyond the automotive industry or “vehicles”. Today, we encounter software-driven electronics everywhere in everyday life. Software-defined vehicles (SDV) have increasingly developed into software-defined systems (SDS) or software-defined anything (SDx). The same paradigms can already be found in medical technology, intelligent manufacturing, household appliances, avionics and many other industries.
Why did you choose Vector as an employer?
Shortly before I actually wanted to move to an employer in another city, a colleague threw a spanner in the works with his enthusiasm for Vector. After I had taken a closer look at Vector, it quickly became clear that I would apply – and so I ended up here rather unexpectedly. I haven’t regretted my decision yet!
